Welcome to the official home of the Bolton 10K – one of the largest and longest established 10km running events in the North West of England. Hosted by Bolton United Harriers & Athletic Club, it attracts a good mix of Club-class competitors whilst also being suitable for social runners, beginners and charity fundraisers.
The challenging course incorporates the undulating roads around and within Leverhulme Park. Re-designed for 2012’s event and offering a Grandstand start AND finish, it proved a hit with runners and spectators alike…ask any of the 800 runners who actually got a spot last year!
All Bolton 10K finishers will receive an exclusive TECH T-SHIRT, with various other spot prizes and goodies distributed at the end. An extensive programme prizes are available to winning positions in the main (open age) race and age categories, which are gender specific. A CASH PRIZE is also available to the winning man and/or woman if they set a new course record.
The course has been accurately measured to 10 kilometres (6.21 miles), and the use of CHIP TIMING allows accurate results for all runners, though finishing positions are decided on gun-time. A free, personalised SMS text message of your result will also be sent to your mobile phone.
A Fun-Run, ideal for children, family members and supporters, takes place before the Bolton 10K main race. This traffic-free, one mile run on flat terrain also starts and finishes from the athletics track at Leverhulme Park. The official entrants will receive a medal and surprise memento on crossing the finish line.
No matter your running experience, there’s no reason not to enter the Bolton 10K…and plenty of reasons to do! For club runners, there are over 40 individual prize categories and team awards, with a course that offers a good setting for inter- and intra- club championships. Equally, the Bolton 10K is ideal for social runners, perhaps looking for a (first) ‘proper’ race to enter. Put on your running shoes and experience the euphoria of crossing a race finishing line!
If you are disappointed to not have gained entry to this year’s Virgin London Marathon, you’ll be pleased to know that a race is being held on the same day! The Bolton 10K has been the North West alternative since 1997. Being approximately a quarter of the marathon distance, if you are seeking to raise funds for a chosen charity by completing a challenging event, the Bolton 10K definitely provides that opportunity. It is also a good way to gauge your comfort if you harbour ambitions to jog London’s 26.2 miles route in the future!
For those wanting to ‘get fit’, possibly as part of a New Year’s resolution, finishing the Bolton 10K is an achievable target to aim for! Perhaps even discover Bolton United Harriers in the process – make new friends in the various training groups whilst building your endurance. Similarly, if you are a student at the University of Bolton, participating in the Bolton 10K has got to be on your list of ‘things to do’ in the town during your study period! The race date is Sunday, 26th April 2020.
